Caterpillar is allergic to wheat

Caterpillar loves to play outside. Each summer, he goes to a family picnic at a special park near his Grandma’s house. Everyone brings food to share, but Caterpillar always makes sure to ask before trying any foods that might contain wheat. If you or someone you know is allergic to wheat like Caterpillar, always check before eating any of the following foods* that often contain wheat in them:

  • Breads and baked goods
  • Cookies and cakes
  • Scones, muffins and pastries
  • Pizza
  • Battered or breaded products
  • Pastas
  • Baking powder
  • Packet sauce mixes
  • Seasonings
  • Dressings and sauces
  • Condiments
  • Certain types of candy
  • Most breakfast cereals
  • Pancakes & waffles
  • Pies
  • Sausages
  • Ice cream
  • Taramasalata (contains breadcrumbs)
  • Mustards and mayonnaise
  • Soy sauce
  • Ready-made foods
  • Vinegar (if derived from wheat grains)

There are lots of grocery stores and special bakeries that offer wheat-free breads and baked goods. These are great places to visit when Caterpillar gets hungry for a sandwich or special treat!

*This list is intended to provide a small sampling of foods that could contain wheat or traces of wheat. There are many others that may not be mentioned here. Always remember to check labels and/or inquire about how foods have been prepared.
