Ladybug is allergic to fish

Ladybug is allergic to fish

Learning new things and going to school are some of Ladybug’s favorite things to do. Eating lunch in her school cafeteria can sometimes be a challenge if fish is on the menu, so Ladybug always remembers to bring her own food to eat, just to be safe. If you or someone you know is allergic to fish like Ladybug, always check before eating any of the following foods* that often contain fish or fish products:

  • Caesar salad dressing
  • Omega-3 supplements
  • Gelatin
  • Fish oils
  • Roe
  • Caviar
  • Surimi (imitation crab)
  • Agar
  • Alginic acid
  • Alginate
  • Anchovies
  • Disodium ionsinate
  • Asian sauces and dishes (egg rolls, etc.)
  • Sushi
  • Thai food
  • Chinese food
  • Japanese food
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Stuffing (check labels)
  • Vietnamese food

Approximately 20 percent of children allergic to fish also are allergic to shellfish. Cross contamination of fish products can easily occur in restaurants. Always check with the wait staff to make food is not prepared in same pan or oils as fish.

*This list is intended to provide a small sampling of foods that could contain fish or traces of fish. There are many others that may not be mentioned here. Always remember to check labels and/or inquire about how foods have been prepared.
